Chez Yankois

Renewing the identity of French in New England

Chez Yankois

Come see our new layout and help us prep for what's next

Bonjour!

If you haven't been to the site in a while, you may have missed some of the recent changes to make it more clear and usable (not to mention the new friends who have joined our over 150 member strong community).

To help orient you to these changes, we invite you to check out the Welcome Center we've added.

We have many more changes we're working on, and we want to speak to you about two in particular that will affect your profile.

In the interest of privacy, we originally built the site to restrict non-members to only see the front page. We had thought that the potential loss of membership would be worth the security of your information, and we still do. However we have heard from various members that it is too difficult to share their activity on Chez Yankois elsewhere on the web. As a result we're going to lift this restriction and rely on you to choose your own comfort level in your personal privacy settings. You can still prevent non-members, or even non-friends, from seeing your profile information, but now you will have the option to share your profile with friends and family who aren't members.

Secondly, in an effort to make your profile page clearer, we're refocusing some of the profile questions. We're going start by no longer dictating just which interests you may share (e.g. books, films, music) and encourage you to place whatever interests you in the general interests profile question. Specifically this means that we will be removing these profile questions (for favorite books, films and music), and this is to warn you so you have the opportunity to move that information to the general interests field if you want to keep it.

We intend to implement both of these changes in two weeks on Tuesday July, 14, so please take any action you feel is necessary before then.

We've been lucky, in the half-year we've been online, to be present during an apparent rediscovery of Franco-American culture. While we won't be egotistic enough to believe we had anything to do with it, we do hope that Chez Yankois will be the online expression of this burgeoning Yankois Movement!
